So your interested in what a silent dog tag is - there are a few styles but We love this type Silent dog tags

Here are the key take aways for the research type people amongst us. There is new info you may not have at the end.

Ensuring your dog has proper identification is not just a safety measure—it's a legal requirement in Britain, Scotland, and Wales. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Legal Requirement: All dogs must wear a collar with an identification tag. This can be on their collar or harness.

  • Information Needed: The tag must display the owner's name and address. We go for our last name and post code.

  • Additional Information The UK dog tag law has been in place since the Control of Dogs Order 1992, so before mobiles were common place? a phone number isnt law we strongly recommend. there is usually space for 2- choose people that will pick up!

  • Penalties: Failure to comply can result in fines up to £5,000.

Compliance: Same regulations as Britain and Scotland.

  • Best Practices: Regularly check and update your dog’s tag to ensure information is current. I had a typo on the last ones I ordered, annoying but my fault so I reordered them.

Action Steps for you:

  • Check Your Dog's Tag: Ensure it includes your current name, address, and phone number.

  • Update If Necessary: If your contact information has changed, get a new tag immediately.

  • Get a Tag: If your dog doesn't have one, order a new tag today.

Remember, having an updated tag is crucial for your dog's safety and your compliance with the law. For more information and to order a quality dog tag, visit Amazon.

What about microchipping you ask

The microchipping law came into effect on April 6, 2016. This law requires all dogs in the UK to be microchipped and their details registered with a government-approved database.

  • There are 22 Defra compliant pet microchip databases in the UK. A scanner needs to find the microchip number, vets are needed to identify the database and in some cases to access the data.

  • There are no internal or external alerts when a missing/stolen pet's account is accessed, so you need to keep checking with the company if there has been access to their records (been seen by a vet)

  • ITS COMPULSORY TO MICROCHIP OUR DOGS BUT OPTIONAL TO SCAN AND CHECK MICROCHIP REGISTRATION. I'm currently researching #fernslaw who are tying to change this.

Stay responsible and keep your dog safe.
